Think about what your painting life would look like if you ditched all the rules you've been taught about painting. Throughout the history of art, there have always been the rules-makers, mainly from academies and groups who hold themselves in great
esteem. But the history of visual art is speckled master painters who rebelled against such rules. Leonardo da Vinci, for one!
MAKE AN IMPORTANT DISTINCTION
There is a distinct difference between a rule made by people and a universal principle of cause and effect.
The heart of the difference is attitude. If all the rules--now laid down in books, in videos, and in classrooms--were presented as ways to solve problems or routes through which to explore potential, then painting
could be a continuous journey of unfolding skills and principles without the stress of trying to remember which rule not to break.
Perhaps then, there would be even more creators like Leonardo da Vinci!
Have yourselves a spectacular weekend!
