Here in the USA, nature is finally waking up again. It's time to get outside and paint. I thought it might be fun in today's post to show you one of my two Grab & Go kits for doing just that.
MY GRAB & GO WATERCOLOR KIT
My favorite way to paint in plein air is to do quick watercolor or gouache studies, mostly in a sketchbook. I have two kits ready to
grab and go out the door. Each of them has in it everything I need. Here's my watercolor kit:
The box was given to me in 1961. It's been my favorite for all these years.
It contains everything I need for walking out the door to take a stroll in my woods or throwing in the car for a quick excursion or
even throwing into my luggage to take on a trip. When I open it, what you see above is what I see.
My little sketchbook fits perfectly into the back lid when open. Notice the cords on either side that hold the lid
sturdy.
This little Cotman Field Box is a self-contained mini watercolor studio.
The lid slides off and becomes a water container, the flaps inside open out to become mixing spaces and the color wells are
refillable. Long ago I dumped the colors that came with the box and filled the wells with my own preferences.
This little water bottle lifts out, then becomes another mixing area when put back into
place.
Brushes, pencils, a pen, a spray bottle to keep the paint moist - and I'm ready to get to
work.
A quick study and I'm ready to move on to the next one. (Okay, so all this is on my kitchen table, but you get the
point.)
Doesn't this nudge you to to outdoors and paint? I'm headed out right now!
