If you've been receiving these posts for more than a year, you might remember this image comparison. With winter approaching for many of us, this one is worth revisiting, with a slightly different take.
On the left is the image I saw in my back yard. On the right is a computer-tweaked version where I raised slightly the intensity of the hue. We painters can use any drab subject and
create from it an intriguing and expressive painting by ramping up the intensity a bit.
HERE'S ONE WAY TO DO
THAT
Mix three values of the neutral colors as you see them
Now, from each of these hues, create an intensity scale
Move to either the left or the right of the original neutral and
select a new palette of colors
TAKE IT EVEN FURTHER
You might even try pushing it further by moving a bit further to either side of the scale for your colors. Doing several studies where each one uses a different combination from the scale could expand for you new possibilities for all your paintings.
