AND TRANSLATING EDGES Edges can be a dynamic tool in composing paintings. Every edge of each shape affects the perception whole piece. If we use only sharp edges, the results is likely to
be stiff or even chaotic. If we use only soft edges, the work will feel flimsy or weak. But if we use flowing or lively or jagged or lost edges along with sharp and soft, we can create dynamic compositions. See if you can find how I've used edges in this painting. Richard Schmid says, "Think of them as visual poetry oozing from your brush..." During the September 26 live streaming workshop Working with Edges, we will learn how to identify the characteristics of edges, how to translate them into brushstrokes and how to adjust their roles according to where we want the emphasis in the
