Think about it: Without the element of value, you'd not be able to see a thing. And, without value contrast, you'd see only solid white or black or mid-tones. You'd still not see any images. You'd not see line or texture or shape or any of the other elements. ALL of them depend the element of value. Try this: Below are three blocks of different values and a
photo reference. Do the following studies (small as 4x6 inches will do) : - In the first one, keeping all other values as you see them in the reference, rather than use the DARKEST value, change it to match Block 1.
- In the second one, keeping all other values as you see them in the reference, rather than use the DARKEST value, change it to match Block 2.
- In the third one, keeping all other values as you see them in the reference, rather than use the DARKEST value, change it to match Block 3.
