The Athenium website shows 1338 paintings by Claude Monet. Within this massage collection, often we find the same subjects painted over and over again, each in a different lighting or weather or color interpretation. Here are just two
examples. Monet did not see subjects as something to be copied. Rather, he saw images as tools for capturing and expressing multitudes of light and atmosphere with paint and brush. He discovered by doing, not by
thinking.
He took his mandate from nobody--no movement, no desire to sell, no current trend. He learned his craft early, then set
out to use it to explore through his own observation. That's all we need to learn from Monet to make our own artistic journey the most joyful and fulfilling experience possible--learn the craft, the use it to explore
whatever gets your attention.
