How Do You See Shape?

What do you see in this shape?

The shape is about as simplified as a shape can be, made only of lines and angles. Let's add the elements of color and value. Now, what do you see? Do you notice a difference in how you respond to the second image?

The shape itself didn't change, but the perception of it did. So far, three elements: line, color & value.

Let's switch it up a bit. Nothing changes except the location of color and value. Still, we have the same shape, but yet another interpretation. Do you notice a difference in how your respond to these two?

Let's add another element of color and value. Notice the difference in your reaction looking back and forth at each of these images. Does it suggest anything to you yet?

Watch your reaction when we switch the negative and positive.

Here's where we got the shape we've been playing with. How does it affect you having all the added information?

We cannot create an image without shape. At the same time, how the shape is treated determines how we perceive the image. That's one reason we can get into trouble giving our attention to the image rather than the elements that make it.
